“If you could be doing anything else right now, what would it be?”

“Ademir, I don’t want to play.” I sniffed and hugged my teddy bear close, tucking it under my chin.

“Come on.” He nudged my shoulder. “It’ll make you feel better.”

“All I feel like doing is throwing up again.”

“I know.” His smile was glum and sympathetic. “But you said you can’t sleep, and this will distract you from your yucky tummy.”

I sighed and rested my head on the pillow. “What was the question again?”

“If you could be doing anything else right now, what would it be?”

My feverish brain was struggling to think clearly, but I eventually croaked, “Swimming in a nice, warm ocean with the sun on my face and pelicans diving in the water for fish.”

“Nice imagery, sis.” Ademir’s smile always made me feel like I was the best.

I managed a weak grin, then asked him the same question.

“Me?” He pointed at his chest, then made a big show of thinking it through. “I’d be in Egypt, standing in front of those ancient pyramids watching camels walk by and listening to all the foreign noises around me.”

“That sounds fun. I want to do that too.”

“Okay, come with me.”

“Then where should we go?”

“After that…” He looked to the ceiling, his lips turning into a huge smile. “Let’s go to those temple ruins in Cambodia!”
